I'm probably in the minority but I can't stand having more than 10 tabs and I start have the urge to finish the task that I'm focused on to just close as many tabs as possible.
So I really read the people talking about 100s of tabs and when I see a colleague having them, I feel that my cognitive ability to deal with that is not there.
I understand that people would like to keep things and that bookmarks sucks, but I would suggest for those to explore Hister [1] and Karakeep [2]. It is much useful that I don't worry about losing stuff now.

This isn’t as useless as it seems. It is a visual representation of how old the tab is. And I control what “old” is.
To put it another way, it helps me recognize which tabs I am using. And which I am saving for later without having to evaluate the content of the tab.
One tweak… the coverage percentage can it be adjustable? Max = 100% looses all information about the pages contents, except the title.
Also also… if the images can be made translucent… you can make old timey effects like yellowing and decay.

In a similar vein, Apple in the ¿’90s? toyed with the idea of making desktop icons show their age, and of making directories with lots of content bulkier and harder to drag around.
I don’t think that ever led to a real product.

I don't think any browsers are really designed for the range of how many tabs people keep open.
I also wonder what the distribution does really look like. Just on my primary profile here I felt like I was making progress trying to get it to under 2000 tabs recently.
It feels like a hopeless battle though. Across multiple machines and browsers and browser profiles i'd reckon i'm stuck at like 12,000 open tabs.

I did a small mockup (built by a LLM agent) of a related concept. A page that gets more wear where people interact with it https://app.squidler.io/peggy/patina/
